In order to continue with its efforts to provide tools, resources and information to help members compete in today’s global economy, PMMI commissioned the production of this market research report on current business conditions and potential opportunities for PMMI members in the Mexican market. This report is an update to the market research report conducted in early 2015, where 40 Mexican companies who had plans for purchasing packaging machinery were interviewed. The main purpose of this update is to identify if those companies’ procurement plans had changed in light of the recent developments in the local and global economy and to determine if they are moving forward with previously planned or entirely new investments.
The companies presented in this report, are those included in the 2015 edition, and are a representative sample of the market, ranging from large multinationals and local groups to medium-sized and small companies in the beverage, food, pharmaceutical, and personal care industries, which are the largest consumers of packaging machinery in Mexico. Interviews were conducted with 32 of these companies. Additional interviews were conducted with associations related to the target markets, as well as with packaging machinery distributors in Mexico that are in constant communication with potential clients and could provide insights into demand trends. In addition to the interviews, an analysis of import trade statistics was conducted to identify the leading packaging machinery importers in 2015, the leading suppliers into the Mexican market and to ascertain the trends in demand by industry sector.
